As of April 2005, we have decided it was time to get out of rabbits. I no longer live in Ohio, and my parents would like to be able to travel with out having to worry about care for the rabbits, so we decided it was time to call it quits. . . for a little while. . . I will maintain this website mostly as a tribute to my past rabbits, and as a "brag book" of sorts. I miss them a lot, but hopefully I will start up again in a few years!
Hello & Welcome to Rand's Rabbitry!!
I'm Melissa Rand and I raise rabbits along with my father, Mike Rand. I'm 22 years old
and have been around rabbits since before I can remember! Rabbits are in our blood!! Rand's Rabbitry originally started back in the 60's with my dad and grandfather. They began raising Checkered Giants
and New Zealands. Later we mostly had pet rabbits and a few San Juan rabbits(which looks a bit like a wild rabbit) which
we raised to train beagle dogs. In 1993 or so, I purchased a Netherland/Polish REW doe and began showing through
4-H. The next year I got into Checkered Giants and began actively showing. Shortly after I got into English Spots.
I've also dabbled in a few different breeds here and there, some Britannia Petites, New Zealands, Silvers, and finally
settled on Rhinelanders(naturally). I've also raised cavies for awhile and we've experimented with creating a "Mini
Checkered."
Unfortunately in the last few years we've had to cut back and the rabbitry has dwindled down from 50-60 head to about
20-25 head and mainly just English Spots. I attend school in Hawaii and don't have the time to show as much anymore and I
really miss it! My dad takes care of the rabbits while I am away, but I miss them alot!
